Hollis Jeffcoat (1952-2018) was an accomplished American painter over 40 years.
She participated in the American Abstract Expressionist movement in the “third generation” of young artistic talent directly mentored and influenced by the first and second generations of Abstract Expressionists.
Hollis lived, worked, and exhibited in New York, Paris, Canada, and SouthWest Florida. Her paintings are currently archived in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum of Art and the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal as well as part of private collections internationally.
Hollis Jeffcoat was a direct witness of some of the biggest abstract expressionists painters’ biographies in contemporary art history including Joan Mitchell, Jean-Paul Riopelle, Elaine de Kooning, Will de Kooning, Nicolas Carone and many other artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, Andrew Forge, Philip Guston, Mercedes Matter, Joan Miró, Francis Bacon, Samuel Beckett, and Sam Francis.

Motivation
Hollis Jeffcoat had a 40-year-long artistic career.
She was mentored and influenced by some of the greatest artists in modern contemporary art.
Hollis Jeffcoat created and documented an extensive body of work from the late seventies through 2018.

Due to her close relationship with relevant artists in modern art history, Hollis Jeffcoat participated in many initiatives to document the artists' biographies including Jean-Paul Riopelle and Joan Mitchell.
In all the existing bibliographical references, Hollis Jeffcoat has been extensively presented just as a side character in all their biographies; however, she was “an artist in her own right”.
As of June 2023, there isn’t a single piece bibliography that presents Hollis Jeffcoat professional and artistic trajectory. The only published information about Hollis Jeffcoat is the exhibit catalog “Hollis Jeffcoat. Landscapes, 1987-1989, Return to America : May 18 to June 30, 1989”. There’s not a single source of information that presents a complete view on the painter Hollis Jeffcoat’s life, career, and artwork.
The Hollis Jeffcoat Project aims to build a full portrait of the artist and her artistic legacy. The project consists of three cultural and creative initiatives that explore and divulgate the figure and career of painter Hollis Jeffcoat.
